Barack Obama Pictures & Urban Legends
59Passive Campaigning?
Learn about various urban legends and pictures about Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. An urban legend, as you probably know, is a story passed around as being factually true. It usually has an element of truth to it, but the remainder may be total fabrication. See the one below:
A few days ago I was sent this email forward:
Please, please, please advise everyone you know that they absolutely can NOT go to the polls wearing any Obama (or whoever you are voting for) shirts, pins, hats, etc. It is AGAINST THE LAW and will be grounds to have the polling officials to turn you away. This is considered campaigning and no one can campaign within X amount of feet of the polls. They are banking on us being overly excited and not being aware of this long standing law that you can bet will be ENFORCED THIS YEAR!!!!!
They are banking that if you are turned away, you will not go home and change your clothes and return to the polls to vote. Please just don't wear ANY gear of any sorts to the polls! Please share this information with as many people as you can. If you are already aware of this, please don't take it as insulting your intelligence.
Good advice. Be safe rather than sorry. But is it true? I found this communication mentioned in an About.Com: Urban Legends page. Essentially it boils down to how local officials interpret the voting regulations of your particular county. It's important to check with your local elections board for the specifics in your area.
But if you just want to be on the safe side, feel free. If you wish you can even go as far as to bring an extra large plain t-shirt with you to the polls. Do this in case someone "didn't get the memo". Whatever you believe, let's help each other do what we can together for our candidate Barack Obama to win!
Where's His Hand?
Hand Over Heart...Or Not?
Another legend has it that Obama is unpatriotic because he was pictured not pledging allegiance to our flag. The photo was taken of the six democratic presidential candidates (at the time) were in Indianola, Iowa. There were standing, hands over heart while the Star Spangled Banner played in the background, except for Obama.
This actually happened, but is not an indicator of his patriotism. This site shows a letter which claimed to have been from Obama regarding this episode. The letter was false.
Obama Extended Family
Obama's Extended Family
This is indeed Barack Obama's extended family. But what about those descriptions. Someone obviously with a warped sense of humor or a fan of the other side. The descriptions for some of the relatives on the second row are stereotypic of people of color caught in specific circumstances of life (drugs, homosexuality, crime, pornography).
It was definitely meant to show a negative light on Obama.
Muslim Anyone?
Another legend is Barack is a Muslim. Although he has claimed to the contrary, there are still rumors. There was actually emails that promoted that notion, contradicting his claim that he is a Christian.
Some people will always be single-minded.
